I’ve been smoking Cavalier Cigars since 2016/2017, the first time I met Sebastien Decoppet, we clicked. SB knew his cigars and was open to share notes, he introduced me to this new brand called Cavalier, which soon became a regular. Unfortunately it never actually occurred to me that I should review the cigars, until recently a friend asked for a review…well better late than never…I apologise as I don’t have many pictures.
Before The Smoke
A simple white band with the image setting the scene of a Cavalier, in Gold. One of the most striking parts of the cigar to the eye, is the diamond of 24K gold leaf affixed to the wrapper, it’s just thin enough to see slight ridges of the veins and think enough for a glorious glow.
The wrapper is this butternut scotch shade, Habanos. Smooth to touch with a sligh oiliness.
A gentle sniff, gives you soft notes of cedar, hay, orange and mild blush coconut cream. The foot brings the same flavours, with an additional smell of honey bread and the pre-light draw is a mix of cedar, hay, orange and mild blush coconut cream.
THE SMOKE
1st Third
The cigar begins with a sweet hay and coconut blush cream. Slowly developing into more mild and ever so gentle medium roasting mango wood, citrus with a balance of sweet hay and coconut blush cream
As the 1st Third comes to a end, the spice begins to pickup, perfectly balancing the earlier flavours Strength and body is mild to low medium
2nd Third
A comfortable warmth has started, with a continuous quick peak of spice and slow settle with each puff. While the draw is mild creamy, flavour builds on the 1st Third and the coconut blush cream and sweet hay slowly evolve to a citrus sweetness supported by cedar and a earthiness which lingers with a bit of spice
No touch ups needed, though the ash isn’t burning as even as I would like, Strength and body heads to a more easy-medium.
Final Third
The final third sees a more robust spice, coconut blush cream with that roasting mango wood reappearing on the main palate, being balance by a back palate earth and cedar. The complexity of flavours is impressive. The well planned evolution from a mild to medium body cigar, takes its flight here.
Overall
The Cavalier Geneve Elegantes definitely set a new benchmark for cigars I would consider an everyday smoke. The Elegante has a good construction, well balanced complex flavours yet is mild enough to be enjoyed in a casual or formal environment daily.
